Emily rolled her eyes as Katie continued to sloppily attach her face to her sports star boyfriend’s lips. It was disgusting. She tugged at her sweater awkwardly as the couple repositioned themselves on the park bench. Emily finally decided she had enough when she felt the boy’s arm dig into her…
Naomi crinkled up her nose and observed the thing before her. “Fuck it.This will get me there faster.” She rode the bike and hastly pedaled her way out of her house.
It was one of those days were she decided to attend a meeting for a rally about tuition fees occurring near their area. She drove past houses and turned around in a corner. Street lights guiding her through the night.
“Ah shortcut!” She went inside a park, she passed by trees and a small pond. “Fuck I’m gonna be late.” She swiftly turned into corners passed by some bushes and benches. She briefly saw a swift red thing in the crook of her eye. Out of curiosity she turned around. “Is that—” While not looking in front, her wheel bumped on a tiny rock and caused her to go off-balance.
A loud thoud was heard. “Fuck sakes!” Naomi screamed as she fell off the bike. She took a deep breath and sighed loudly. She gazed into the stars and then her surroundings. She adjusted her vision that made her jaw drop. ”Emily.” She whispered.
It had been years since she saw her. Emily Fitch. A lot of repressed emotions came running back at her, but she showed an indifferent image. She saw her alone, feeling lonely. She wanted to accompany her but— ‘I’m not gay.’ She thought. She fixed herself, grabbed her bike, and started to walk away from Emily.
But she can’t help but to glance back one more time.
As Emily stared sadly at the dying cigarette, she heard the sounds of wheels coming towards her followed by a loud thud. She jumped and turned around, seeing a girl with platinum blonde hair on the ground next to her fallen bike. As Emily squinted her eyes to see who the mysterious girl was she heard her whisper Emily’s name. Suddenly she knew exactly who it was. Naomi Campbell. Emily breathed deep and looked back up to the stars. Really? She mentally cursed, out of all the people to run into at this exact moment it had to be Naomi fucking Campbell. There had been so many things Emily had wanted to say to her, but no words seemed to escape her lips. Above all, she wanted desperately to apologize. It was because of her that everyone, namely Katie, spread lies about Naomi. However, the only thing Emily seemed to acheive was standing there awkwardly as Naomi walked away from her.
“Wait!” Emily called before she knew what she was doing “Naomi, I-” It stopped there. Her one second of courage to talk to Naomi had gone. She had no idea how to put all she wanted to say into one sentence, let alone a conversation. Fuck it. “I’m sorry.” she said finally, realizing that was on the top of the list. She missed her. It took seeing her in person to realize just how much. “No, I can’t fucking miss her, she doesn’t want you.” Emily thought to herself pushing away the thought. Emily was they gay one, not Naomi.
“Wait.” Naomi heard those words clearly but pretended to be deaf. She forced herself to walk and dragged the bike along with her. Each step for Naomi feels like a prick in her heart. But she’s independent and doesn’t need anyone, she can get through anything alone. She’s strong.
“Naomi, I-” Emily’s voice made her stop in her tracks. She felt vulnerable. She took a deep breathe and pushed away the feelings that are occuring. She closed her eyes for a second and recalled the other girl’s voice calling her. She felt something— bliss. But she quickly sighed and numbed herself to everything.
“I’m sorry.” Naomi turned to the red-headed girl and smiled sadly. She walked a few steps towards her, just enough so that Emily could hear her voice. ”Emily, I—” She was lost for words as her emotions started to stir inside her. She can’t bear it anymore she thought to herself. Emily, could still do things to her even if she put so many walls around her. She can’t stand not being close to Emily. She misses her so much that it hurts.
She wiped the tear in the corner of her eye and smiled at Emily. “You know what? Fuck all of this! Let’s just start again.” She said as she offered her a handshake.
Emily felt as if a part of her was dying inside as Naomi continued to walk away. There was so much she wanted, or rather needed to say. But Naomi hated her, she knew she did. And why shouldn’t she? Emily had made her life a living hell all because she was selfish and scared. If she had been half as confident as Naomi, she never would have been in this mess. She squeezed her shut, trapping the tear that threatened to fall from her eye.
“Emily, I-” Emily’s eyes shot open at the sound of Naomi’s voice. She stared at her sad smile and waited for her to finish. It felt as if hours were going by as Emily pulled together a list of outcomes in her mind. She expected Naomi to hate her, to yell at her, to hit her, or worst of all, ignore her…all things she deserved. However what Naomi said next shocked her more than any outcome she could possibly imagine. She wanted to start again. Without even trying, a smile crept along Emily’s lips. Her hand shook as she brought it up to meet Naomi’s. As their hands made contact Emily suddenly felt warm inside, happy…No, she thought as she shook away the feeling. Don’t even start. Don’t push her away…again. She knew Naomi was straight, she had made it very clear. “That would be nice.” Emily said simply as she pulled her hand away. “Hello, I’m Emily.” Emily said, smiling. “And you are…?” Emily wouldn’t screw up the second chance. It was a fresh start, a new beginning…a new friend. Just a friend.

She tugged at her sweater awkwardly as the couple repositioned themselves on the park bench. Emily finally decided she had enough when she felt the boy’s arm dig into her back. She stood up abruptly and walked off further into the empty park. This awful night had been a direct result of Katie being forced to include her twin sister in her life more. She heard Katie call her name, but she continued walking, unwilling to listen to anything she had to say.
Emily lit a cigarette as she took a seat on one of the other park benches. She just wanted to be alone. She didn’t want to talk or think…she just wanted to sit there, pathetically basking in her loneliness. As she took an extra long drag of her cigarette, she looked up at the stars that swirled around in the night sky. She thought of ways to tell her sister about her, but eventually came to the conclusion that she would stay in the world’s largest closet forever. She couldn’t come out, could she? “Of course I can’t.” she whispered in response to her thought.

Emily stumbled along the cobblestone street as a small bit of gin spilled from the bottle. She rubbed her head as she dropped down to her knees. She sat there for what seemed like hours as worthless faces rushed by, some stopping to glance at the pitiful and drunk, Emily Fitch. “Fuck off.” she muttered to anyone who offered help. She looked up to the overwhelming amount of stars as she took another sip. She felt so alone under all those stars. Soon they started to spin, but to her it looked like dancing. She smiled up at them, taking another sip to further herself into numbness.
After a while she pushed herself up and walked to an unknown place. She didn’t quite know where her legs were taking her, but she didn’t care. She pulled a cigarette out of her pocket as she heard heart-pounding music coming from the building next to her. It had a pale white door, nothing particularly special, but the music was louder than anything she had heard before. It made her numb. And that was exactly what she wanted then more than anything. She placed the cigarette in her mouth and used her free hand to clutch the doorknob. It was freezing cold on her fingers as she slowly turned it. She closed her eyes as she stepped into the unknown room and immediatly it was like she was in a different world. Music filled her lungs as she breathed in deep. When she opened her eyes she saw hundreds of sweaty bodies dancing in tune with the blasting sound. It was dark, very dark. Strobe lights pulsed through the club, illuminating the dancers. Emily laughed as she danced her way into the crowd, holding up the bottle. She threw her heaad up and closed her eyes. She didn’t know where she was, but she never wanted to leave.
